BR: 2-8 "The fir tree"

"He did not enjoy anything. But he did grow bigger." (p. 11)

In the woods, there was a young Fir tree. The Fir tree wanted to be big. One winter, a family came to him. He was the first tree of Christmas. He went to his new home. The people put him in the middle of the living room. He was a Christmas tree in the house. He was very beautiful. The children danced around the Fir tree. The next morning, the Fir tree was taken upstairs and put in a dark room. One day, he told the mice about his life. They liked his stories. Then he was taken outside by the man. The children said, "Look at that ugly old tree!" the Fir tree looked at the beautiful trees. He said, "I did not enjoy myself when I was young. Now I am old. It is too late now." The boy put the Fir tree in a fire. He was one.
